Fitness Anniversary

Two weekends ago I competed in my first Crossfit comp. A goal that I set for myself when I started my fitness journey three years ago today. This past year was a hard one for me, starting a business, dealing with so many health issues, flair-ups and the  hard thing for me was putting on some of the weight that I once lost. No journey will ever be perfect. It's never a straight shot it's all about the mountain tops and valleys. I could of easily quit when the flair-ups started and the weight started to come back on but I didn't quit. Why? There is one simple answer to that question God:

He alone gives me strength to keep on pressing on in this journey no matter what.

He alone gives me strength to keep on getting up when I've been knocked down.

Finally he alone is my anchor when all hope seems lost.

Of course I had my moment when I wanted to quit but right when I was about to have my breaking point God intervenes and spoke strength back into my spirit. It happened this past weekend during the crossfit comp. I knew the pain that was going to come doing one of the WODs (workouts) because I was currently dealing with a flair-up. I was almost in tears thinking about the pain the was coming but just at the moment God spoke to me this verse in Isaiah 40:29-31 "He gives strength to the weary and increases power of the weak... But those who hope in the Lord renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles they will run and not grow weary they will walk and not faint". As I was about to go I saw the same verse that the Lord gave to me on someone's shirt out of now where. In that moment God gave me strength to make it through. The whole week before the comp I was thinking about dropping out between the pain and being 30lbs heavier than I was last year. I came in 14th place out of 44 athletes and PR on my power clean at 145lbs. I needed to compete that day even if it meant going through a great deal of pain because it showed me once again that God is my strength only and how truly blessed I am to have an amazing gym family, which I love from the bottom of my heart. So never give up even if you have to go through pain, failure or disappointment because beyond that God's strength lays ahead for us to conquer our goals.

There is Hope in overcoming an eating disorder

This week is national eating disorder awareness week. I'm here to tell you that there's hope that you can overcome any eating disorder. I personally have struggled with binge eating disorder for 20years. Food was my drug it comfort me when I was depressed & controlled of my life. The struggle was slowly killing me taking me well over 430lbs. The cycle of binging and feeling so much guilt was a daily routine for me but one day my life change forever. Every night I ask God to take the bingeing away & one morning I had a dream of me running a race as an athlete. I remember God telling me if I do my part he will do his. God did his part he leaded me to an incredible fitness family @ Zee fitness. I have lost 165lbs & overcame my binge eating disorder. Do I still struggle with bingeing? Of course & some times I fail but now I get up & keep on fighting. God gave me the strength I needed daily to overcome it but it required me to take that step. If you struggle with a eating disorder I want you to know that you can overcome it. It doesn't have to control your life anymore. You can break through that mindset. God will give you the strength you need daily to over come it. "But Jesus looked at them and said, With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible" (Matthew 19:26, ESV).

Abide to the True Power Source

"Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me" John 15:4

Earlier this week this verse came to me as I was plugging in the blender in to the socket to make oatmeal flour. The only way for this blender to work is if I plug it in to the power source but doesn't that parallel to our own lives? Often times we struggle to reach our life goals because we fail to connect to the true power source.  We connect ourselves to willpower and self motivation, which has limits and often runs out during hard times. I know in my own life willpower and self motivation only took me so far in my weight lost and when the hard times would come it's power would run dry and I would gain the weight back. It wasn't until I realized that I wasn't connect to the true power source, which never runs out and has no limits was I able to lose the weight. God's power kept me pressing forward even when the scale don't move. You often hear people say, "Be your own motivation" but the problem is that your own motivation will run out especially when you're in the battle. God as your power source you never have to worry about His power running out. The only problem we have to worry about is remaining connected to God's power source. There are so many times during my own weight-loss journey that I fail to abide in God's power but I'm not perfect that's ok because with God I don't have to be . ("His power is made perfect in our weakness") The great thing about our heavenly father is he is always there waiting for us to be connected to him. He wants more than ever to be your coach and your trainer. His love and power is enough to help you achieve the hardest goals or overcome the biggest battles. The struggles to take control of your health will be there but if you abide in God's power you can press on through any obstacle in your way. It's not easy but with God it's possible.

God says: "You provide the obedience, I'll provide the power"

Faith and Fitness

"The journey of 1000 miles begins with one step"  It just takes one step to get closer to our goals. I have struggle with being overweight my whole life yet my hopes & dreams were to be strong and fit. I remember praying over and over again asking God to take the weight off. I remember one day God spoke to my heart and said "if you will do your part and I will do mine". God was waiting for me to take that first step, which I did and for me it was going to my first Bootcamp class but that first step leaded me to where I'm today. Not only have I lost 165lbs but I compete as a athlete in the strongwoman sport. The best part is my journey is that its never ending. It is an adventure that has its new challenges and mountains to climb but with God by my side I will not fail and either will you. Once I took that first step God gave me the grace and strength for the next one and the next one. Wellness and weight loss is a step by step process there is no easy way. I'm living proof it can be done no matter what the doctors or anybody has told you.  It takes sacrifice, commitment and a whole lot of God's grace. God is willing to help us but we must be willing to do our part. So let us run towards our goals whatever they may be with perseverance knowing that with God all things are possible.

Never Give Up!

On any weight loss journey discouragement happens because the journey challenges you in every area of your life. Its more the just the physical aspects but the spiritual & mental aspects of pushing it day after day telling your body what to do. There are times that you fail but that's where you get up and press forward knowing that the next meal & next workout I'll do better. That's why its not a diet it is a lifestyle change and the truth is you do not have to be perfect. I have failed so many times in this journey but I learned not to waste them but to use them to make me stronger. You can do this!!! Don't listen to the lies your mind is telling you. God has placed the strength in each of us to achieve greatness. Why not use it??? There are far better things ahead than behind.

Yes I am a recovering food addict!!!! When I was sad, happy, in pain, anxious, mad, bored or simply feeling nothing I ate for comfort.  Food was my drug of choice it became so bad that I developed a binge eating disorder. I felt so out of control of my life because I knew that I was slowly killing myself. As a child I used to dream of becoming an athlete but my body never lined up with that image. I went to so many doctors who told me that surgery was my only option. That it was too far gone for me to try to lose the weight myself but I knew they were wrong because God had another plan in store for me...

In January 2014 I remember praying and asking God to set me free from the control that food had on me and my life. In that moment I knew that 2014 was going to be my year of change. All I had to do was to step out because God already had the perfect action plan in place for me. The first four months where rough but I pressed on. God had given me awesome friends to push me beyond my comfort zone to achieve a total lifestyle change. 165 lbs down I'm doing things that I used to dream of doing from running, spinning, lifting, to just being able to move. I'm becoming that athlete that I always dreamed of being. My whole life changed from the way I view food to the way I move my body but I must say the greatest change was inwardly. Come join me as I continue to go after this FitBlessedLife.
